Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Said that he heard Said ibn al-Musayyab say: when Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) returned from Mina, he made his camel kneel at al-Abtah, then prayed to his Lord that He take him without losing or failing. Then he came to Medina and addressed the people: the sunnas have been set for you and the obligations have been imposed for you, and you have been left on the clear path. He warned against someone saying: we do not find two punishments in God's book, for the Prophet ﷺ stoned and we stoned. He said: if people did not say that Umar added to God's book, I would have written the verse of stoning in the Mushaf, for we recited it. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's note on Said ibn al-Musayyab's hearing from Umar, and that the report is sound in al-Bukhari and Muslim from the transmission of al-Zuhri. 1
