Summary
Malik transmits from Rabia ibn Abi Abd al-Rahman that al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may God be pleased with him) bought a slave and freed him, and that slave had sons by a free woman. Al-Zubayr claimed their clientage, and the clients of their mother also claimed it. They brought the dispute to Uthman ibn Affan (may God be pleased with him), who ruled the clientage of the sons for al-Zubayr. 1
