Summary

The first report in the chapter on funeral prayer after the afternoon and after the dawn. Malik transmits from Muhammad ibn Abi Harmala, client of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Sufyan ibn Huwaytib, that Zaynab bint Abi Salama (may God be pleased with her) died while Tariq was governor of Medina. Her bier was brought after the dawn prayer and placed at al-Baqi. Tariq used to pray the dawn at the first light, and Ibn Abi Harmala heard Abdullah ibn Umar tell her family: either you pray over your dead now, or you leave her until the sun rises. The editor notes that the chapter heading in one copy reads 'after dawn until brightness, and after the afternoon until yellowing', and that Abu Musab, Suwayd and Yahya ibn Bukayr transmitted it from Malik, citing al-Bayhaqi (4/32). 1
