Overview
Ibn Hajar, as Ibn al-Imad relates in "Shadharat al-Dhahab", gives a list of the rulers of the Muslim world at the start of the year 801 AH, the first year of the ninth century. 2
The rulers named
- Egypt, Syria and the Hijaz: the king al-Zahir Barquq.
- The lands of Rum: Abu Yazid ibn Uthman.
- Yemen: the king al-Ashraf Isma'il in the parts of Tihama, and the Zaydi imam Ali ibn Salah in the mountains.
- Central Maghrib: Abu Sa'id Uthman al-Marini. Far Maghrib: Ibn al-Ahmar.
- The eastern lands: Timur. Baghdad: Ahmad ibn Uways.
- Mecca: Hasan ibn Ajlan. Medina: Thabit ibn Nufayr.
- The caliphate: the Abbasid Abu Abd Allah Muhammad al-Mutawakkil. 2
A dispute over the title
The text says that the Zaydi imam and some kings of the Maghrib disputed with him the title Commander of the Faithful, and that the preacher of Yemen used to pray for the Abbasid al-Musta'sim. 2
The text also names the deputies of Damascus, Aleppo, Tripoli, Hama, Safad and Gaza, and says that al-Sakhawi wrote the biographies of the people of this century in six volumes. 2
