Ibn Amir's Crossing of the River and his Thanksgiving Ihram

عبور ابن عامر النهر وإحرامه شكراً

Abu Ubayda: Ibn Amir conquered this side of the river; when his fame reached Transoxania they sued for peace — he crossed to a place, or they came to him and truced — and collectors brought beasts, wada'if, silk and garments, whereupon he made ihram in thanks to God. No one else reports his crossing or his sulh with the east-bank people; he then performed umra and came before Uthman.

Overview

Al-Baladhuri reports from Abu Ubayda the account of Ibn Amir and the lands beyond the river, and his putting on the state of ihram in thanks to God. 1

The account

Ibn Amir conquered the lands on this side of the river. When news of him reached the lands beyond, they asked him to make peace with them, and he did. It is said that he crossed the river until he came to a place; it is also said that they came to him and he made peace. He sent men to collect what had been agreed, and beasts, slave-girls, silk and garments came to him. 1

The ihram

Then he put on the state of ihram in thanks to God, performed the umra, and came to Uthman. 1

Al-Baladhuri notes that apart from Abu Ubayda, none mentioned his crossing of the river or his making peace with the people of the far bank. 1

Conquest of Jur

Jur, Ardashir-Khurra's city, where Harim ibn Hayyan stood — the Muslims besieged it and came away to besiege Istakhr, raiding the countryside as if broken. When Ibn Amir sat before it they fought then fortified, and he took it by the sword in 29h; another telling: raided for years until they entered by a hidden way they held to till the city fell. Ibn Amir also took al-Karyan and Fashjan of Darabjird — neither had joined the Hirbadh's sulh, and both had breached.
