Commanders: al-Mustansir bi'llah Mansur ibn al-Zahir
Summary
In 440 AH al-Mu'izz ibn Badis proclaimed in the Maghrib the call of the Abbasid caliph al-Qa'im bi-Amr Allah, and he renounced obedience to the Fatimid caliph al-Mustansir 1.
The Arab tribes
Al-Mustansir sent an army of Arabs against him. That was the first entry of the Arabs into Ifriqiya: the Banu Riyah and the Banu Zughba 1.
What followed
Their affairs went on for a long time. Ibn Khaldun reports that the Hilali Arabs spoiled the roads and villages in the days of al-Mu'izz until they ruined Ifriqiya 2.
