Overview
On 13 Rabi' al-Akhir 588 AH the Frankish marquis, lord of Tyre (Conrad of Montferrat), was killed. Ibn al-Athir counts him among the greatest devils of the Franks. 2
The account
Ibn al-Athir relates that Salah al-Din sent to Sinan Rashid al-Din, chief of the Isma'ilis, asking him to kill the king of England, and promised him ten thousand dinars if he killed the marquis. Sinan sent two men in the garb of monks, who stayed six months showing worship until the marquis trusted them. Then they leapt upon him on the day of a bishop's invitation and wounded him, and then the two men were killed. The Franks attributed his killing to the king of England. 3
This is the account of Ibn al-Athir alone, and it needs an additional source.
