Overview

In the time of Mu'awiya, Abd Allah ibn Amir appointed Abd Allah ibn Sawar al-Abdi over the frontier of India; it is said that Mu'awiya himself appointed him. He raided al-Qiqan and took booty, then went to Mu'awiya, presented him with Qiqani horses, and stayed with him. 1

He then returned to al-Qiqan, and they called the Turks to their aid against him, and they killed him. 1

His generosity

The account says he was generous: no one lit a fire in his camp except him. One night he saw a fire and asked about it. He was told it was for a woman in childbirth, for whom a sweet dish (khabis) was being made. He ordered that people be fed khabis for three days. 1
