Abdallah ibn Sawar al-Abdi

عبد الله بن سوار العبدي

Abdallah ibn Sawar al-Abdi; frontier lord who gifted Mu'awiya Qiqani horses, then died at Qiqan to Turkish aid — so generous no other fire burned in his camp, and a lying-in woman's khabis meant three days' khabis for all.

Overview

Abd Allah ibn Sawar al-Abdi was governor of the frontier of India in al-Baladhuri's account. He raided al-Qiqan and took booty, and sent horses from al-Qiqan to Mu'awiya. Then he returned, and the people of al-Qiqan asked the Turks for help, and they killed him. 1

Al-Baladhuri describes his generosity: no one lit a fire in his camp but his own, and he fed people with khabis three times when it was made for a woman in childbirth. 1
