Hamstringing the horses

In the land of al-Qiqan al-Muhallab met eighteen Turkish horsemen on hamstrung horses. They fought him and all were killed. Al-Muhallab said something to the effect: these foreigners are not more entitled than we are to gird up. So he hamstrung his horses, and according to the account he was the first of the Muslims to do this. 1
