Worship and the pillarsSacred time
Summary
Linguistically, ibrad means entering the cool, or entering the late part of the day. For the jurists it is delaying the noon prayer until the time of cool. The word is also used of leaving a slaughtered animal to cool before it is skinned. It begins for the noon prayer when the sharpness of the heat breaks and a shade appears in which the worshipper can walk. 1
General ruling
Delaying the noon prayer is a permission, and in intense summer heat in hot countries it is recommended by agreement for one who attends the mosque in congregation. The Encyclopedia cites the hadith of Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) that when the heat is intense, the prayer should be delayed, since the heat of intense summer is from the blaze of Hell. If one of those conditions is missing, the recommendation is disputed and detailed. 1
Where it is discussed
The delayed noon prayer, its call and the Friday prayer are treated in the entry on prayer times. The delaying of a slaughtered animal before skinning is treated in the entry on slaughter. 1
