Summary
The Sheikh holds that Ramadan 'exposes smokers': whoever has gone fourteen hours without smoking, from dawn to sunset, should carry on and quit. 1 He holds that a smoker who is well off is a squanderer, and squanderers are brothers of the devils, while a poor smoker is foolish, citing the command not to give the foolish their wealth. 1 2 He argues that one gives a poor man a garment, a coin or a loaf for God's sake, but cannot tell him 'take a cigarette, or two puffs of the water-pipe, for God's sake', and holds that the unlawful remains unlawful and the lawful lawful until the Day of Resurrection; this is his view, in an exhortation. 2 3
