Summary

Majmu' al-Fatawa ("The Collected Fatwas") is the great gathering of the fatwas, answers, treatises and "rules" written by Taqi al-Din Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim Ibn Taymiyya of Harran (d. 728 AH). It was collected and arranged by Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Qasim, helped by his son Muhammad, as the title page of the King Fahd Complex printing states. 1 It is not a book Ibn Taymiyya composed in this order: it is the compiler's arrangement of scattered texts under subject headings, many of which open with "He was asked" followed by "He answered", or "Shaykh al-Islam said" followed by "Section". 2 3

Kitab al-Iman (al-Iman al-Kabir) of Ibn Taymiyya

A book by Ibn Taymiyya (d. 728 AH) on the reality of faith (iman) and submission (islam), known as Kitab al-Iman al-Kabir and opening volume 7 of Majmu' al-Fatawa. It sets out what the Qur'an and Sunna show the term 'faith' to cover, holds that unqualified faith entails deeds and that faith increases and decreases, answers the Murji'a, the Jahmiyya and those who championed Jahm's view of faith, and details the views on the 'exception' in faith.
