Hamasa of al-Bayyasi

A selection of poetry in two volumes by Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf ibn Muhammad al-Bayyasi of al-Andalus. At the end he states that he finished composing and arranging it in the city of Tunis in Shawwal 646 AH. ¹

In the preface he says that he gathered selections from Arab poetry, from the pre-Islamic, the mukhadrami (who lived across the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods), the Islamic and the later poets, together with the poetry of the modern poets of the East and al-Andalus. He followed the arrangement of the Hamasa of Abu Tammam, and paired each poem with others of the same kind. ¹

Ibn Khallikan reports that he saw a copy read to the author, in his own hand, written at the end of Rabi al-Akhir 650 AH. ¹
