Overview
A selection of poetry by Abu Tammam Habib ibn Aws al-Ta'i, arranged under chapter headings. Ibn Khallikan describes the work as one in which its author stood alone in this craft, with the greatest share and the most precious merchandise, so that those who came after him followed his example. 1
Yusuf al-Bayyasi followed its arrangement in his own Hamasa, which he finished at Tunis in 646 AH, because he found no closer arrangement and no better order. Ibn Khallikan reports that it was held, along with the Six Poets and the collected works of Abu Tammam, al-Mutanabbi and al-Ma'arri, among what the proficient memorisers preserved. 1
