Short answer

The Qur'an is the revealed speech of God, recited in worship. Hadith is what was transmitted from the Prophet as saying, action or approval, and it is taken according to the rules of chain and text.

Detailed answer

The Qur'an is the revealed Book of God. Hadith is a separate science with its own rules, called the Prophetic hadith, and it has its own technical discipline, the terminology of hadith. Some hadith is a sacred hadith, which the Prophet related from his Lord in its own words. It is not counted as Qur'an and is not recited in worship.
