Overview

Tana is a frontier post of India. Uthman ibn Abi al-As sent an army to it from Oman, and Umar wrote to him rebuking him, according to al-Baladhuri. 1

The rebuke

Al-Baladhuri relays Umar's words to Uthman: "You carried a worm on a stick," and that if the troops had been struck, he would have taken from his own people the like of them. 1
