Overview
Sumaysat (Samosata) on the Euphrates is one of the districts of al-Jazira. Iyad sent to it Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal and Habib ibn Maslama, who prevailed over some of its villages and fortresses. Then its people made peace with him on the terms of the people of al-Ruha. Then they broke those terms, and Iyad returned to them and besieged them until he conquered it, according to al-Baladhuri. 1
