Shahrazur

شهرزور

A city on Iraq's upper flank toward the mountain; Uzra ibn Qays failed at it and Utba ibn Farqad took it after fighting on Hulwan's terms — the approach-fever killing Muslims — with al-Samaghan and Darabadh treating alongside; its district stayed joined to Mosul till late in al-Rashid's reign.

Overview

Shahrazur is a city in upper Iraq toward the mountain, according to the book Futuh al-Buldan. Azra ibn Qays, governor of Hulwan, was unable to take it. Utba ibn Farqad conquered it after fighting, on the terms of the peace of Hulwan. 1

Scorpions (al-maqarib) would strike a man, and he would die. Its people, together with those of al-Samghan and Darabadh, made peace on payment of jizya and kharaj. It and its districts remained joined to Mosul until the end of the caliphate of al-Rashid. 1

al-Mustansir bi'llah Mansur ibn al-Zahir

Abbasid caliph [623–640], hailed Rajab 623; builder of the Mustansiriyya — four madhhab chairs, bimaristan, kitchen, hammam, 70,000-mithqal waqf. His host once routed the Tatars; in 632 he struck silver dirhams to spare people usurious gold-cutting. His fierce brother al-Khafaji was passed over for his mild son Ahmad.
