Overview

Nablus is the city of the Samaritans. In it is the well at which, according to the people of Jerusalem, Isa sat and asked the Samaritan woman for water. It lies one day from Ramla, according to al-Idrisi. 2

Al-Maqdisi describes it as called "Lesser Damascus", abundant in olives, in a valley pressed between two mountains. Its market runs from gate to gate, its congregational mosque in the middle is paved and clean, and its people have wondrous underground chambers. 3
