Overview

al-Karaj: a city in the mountains. al-Baladhuri reports that Isa ibn Idris settled there, prevailed over it and built its fortress. The position of Abu Dulaf al-Qasim ibn Isa grew stronger, and his standing with the ruler became great, so the fortress was enlarged and al-Karaj was developed. It came to be called "Karaj of Abu Dulaf", and it is one of the cities of the land. 1

Abu Dulaf's Daylam Campaign

Abu Dulaf al-Qasim ibn Isa raided Daylam in al-Ma'mun's reign and was governor under al-Mu'tasim in al-Afshin's Jibal command, taking fortresses — Iqlism whose people treated for tribute, Bumaj taken by force then brought to tribute-terms, al-Iblam and Andaq among others — while al-Afshin sent other raiders who took Daylami forts as well.
