Ziri ibn Atiyya al-Maghrawi

Ziri ibn Atiyya ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Khazr al-Maghrawi, amir of the Banu Khazr and founder of their state in Fez, of the Maghrawa. He died in the year 391 AH on his return from the siege of Ashir (the Common Era conversion is derived) ¹.

Ibn Khaldun reports that he prepared the state in Fez and the far Maghrib in obedience to al-Mansur ibn Abi Amir. Abd al-Malik al-Muzaffar met him at the valley of Mina near Tangier in Shawwal 388 AH, and he was stabbed in the throat and his companions were routed. Fez refused him, so he took refuge in the desert ¹.

He then returned and took Tahart, Tlemcen, Shalaf, Tenes and al-Masila, and kept the call in them for al-Mu'ayyad Hisham and al-Mansur. He besieged Ashir, the capital of the kingdom of the Sanhaja, and fell ill, and released it, and died on his way back. His son al-Mu'izz succeeded him ¹.
