Summary

The jurist Muhyi al-Din Yusuf ibn Daryas al-Findalawi al-Maghribi was a great shaykh — jurist, scholar, ascetic and righteous. He went out to fight in the Franks' battle at the gate of Damascus; Mu'in al-Din, the army's commander, saw him on foot, went to him and said: O shaykh, you are excused for your great age — we will defend the Muslims — and asked him to go back. He refused, saying: we have sold and He has bought of us — by God I shall not let Him go nor ask to be let go. He advanced and fought until he was killed at al-Nayrab. 1
