Life in time
Overview
Abu'l-Futuh Yahya ibn Habash ibn Amirak, styled Shihab al-Din al-Suhrawardi — some say his name was Muhammad; he read wisdom and the principles of fiqh under Shaykh Majd al-Din al-Jili at Maragha until he excelled in both; singular in his age in the philosophical sciences, gathering the philosophers' sciences and brilliant in fiqh's principles — sharp-minded, eloquent — a Shafi'i nicknamed "the Slain," accused of ta'til and holding the doctrine of the early sages. 2
His killing
When he reached Aleppo its scholars gave a fatwa permitting his blood; he was imprisoned then strangled in Aleppo's citadel at the direction of Sultan Salah al-Din, by the hand of his son al-Malik al-Zahir — in 587, aged thirty-eight; Judge Baha' al-Din Ibn Shaddad records him. 2
