Summary
Abu 'Ali Shaqiq ibn Ibrahim al-Balkhi, among the shaykhs of Khurasan, had a tongue in tawakkul and spoke well on it. He was the master of Ibrahim ibn Adham, who took the Path from him. He went to the land of the Turks for trade while still young; a scholar of the idol-worshippers rebuked him by way of argument over sustenance, and that became the cause of his renunciation — he gave away all he owned and sought knowledge. 1
From Omar Abdelkafy's programme Wa Nafsin wa ma Sawwaha
Omar Abdelkafy relates that Shaqiq's pupil Hatim al-Asamm visited his house for thirty years, and that while Shaqiq was making ablution his wife told him 'your blind friend' was at the door; coming out, he told Hatim that his wife thought he was blind, so lowered did he keep his gaze (needs_source: the story is the Sheikh's narration). 2 3
