Overview
Sadaqa ibn Mansur ibn Dubays ibn Ali ibn Mazyad al-Asadi, amir of the Banu Mazyad and builder of al-Hilla in Iraq. He was given the title "King of the Arabs" 1.
His rule
He was one of the rulers of the Mazyadid state. He was among the greatest supporters of Sultan Muhammad ibn Malik Shah against his brother Barkiyaruq. The Sultan granted him Wasit and permitted him to rule Basra 1.
His death
Sultan Muhammad contested his rule after he had given protection to Sarkhab ibn Kaykhusraw. When the two met at the end of Rajab in the year 501 AH, the Ubada and the Khafaja deserted him. He charged the Turks, calling out, "I am the King of the Arabs, I am Sadaqa." An arrow struck him, and a Turkish youth named Barghash killed him, and his head was carried to the Sultan. This was twenty-one years into his rule 1.
His character
Ibn Khaldun describes him as generous, forbearing, truthful and just. He could read but not write, and he had a library of books in attributed hands 1.
