Overview
Abu Nasr Sabur ibn Ardashir, the vizier, bought a house in al-Karkh and named it the House of Knowledge, endowing it for scholars, as al-Suyuti records 2.
The House of Knowledge
He built the house in the year 382 AH, and endowed many books to it 2.
A shared name
The records link this name with reports in al-Mas'udi 3 and Ibn al-Nadim 4 about Sabur, king of the Persians: the building of a fire temple near Constantinople, the siege of Hatra, and the meeting with Mani. These do not appear to concern the vizier himself, so attributing them to him would need an additional source.
