Education

Mulla Qasim al-Baghdadi al-Kirmani

Mulla Qasim al-Baghdadi al-Kirmani, later of Constantinople, a Hanafi and the nephew of the poet Mulla Shaykhi. He studied learning and entered the service of Mulla Abd al-Karim. He then became a teacher in the town of Amasya, then at the madrasa of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may God be pleased with him), and then at one of the eight madrasas in Constantinople 1.

He was clever, sound-hearted and very sensible. He taught two or three lines each day, and he discussed them in full, covering all that could be raised of grammar, morphology, meanings, rhetoric, logic and the principles of law. He resolved every difficulty that students raised, in the best and most elegant way. He wrote glosses on the commentary on al-Mawaqif, answers to the seven difficult problems that Mulla Lutfi had raised, and a fine Turkish and Persian remark. He died in the year 901 2.
