Summary

Maysara was the servant of Khadija bint Khuwaylid. He went out with the Prophet on the journey to Syria with her goods, and then told her what he had seen in him: sweet manners, noble qualities, sound judgement, truthful speech and a trustworthy way. This was among the reasons for her marrying him 1 2 3.

On the journey and after

Khadija sent to the Prophet ﷺ offering him a journey to Syria with her goods, with a servant of hers called Maysara. He accepted, and went out with Maysara until they reached Syria 1 4. When they returned, Maysara told Khadija what he had seen in the Prophet, and she found in him the treasure she had been seeking 2 5.

From another source

Al-Mas'udi relates that the monk Nestorius looked at the Prophet from his hermitage during this journey, while a cloud shaded him. He said that he was a prophet and the last of the prophets 6.

Notes for researchers

  • The data card contains a passage taken from Ibn Khaldun about a "Maysara" whom the Berbers pledged allegiance to on Sufri doctrine and then killed. That is Maysara al-Mutghari, leader of the Berber revolt in 122 AH, not Khadija's servant. The passage needs to be moved to a separate card.
  • The Sealed Nectar does not record what happened to Maysara after the journey, nor his religion.
For young visitors

Maysara was the servant of Lady Khadija. He accompanied the Prophet on the trading journey to Syria, and when he came back he told Khadija about the Prophet's truthfulness and good character.

The Prophet's trade journey to Syria with Khadija's goods

At twenty-five the Prophet went to Syria as a trader with the goods of Khadija bint Khuwaylid, who had heard of his truthfulness, trustworthiness and noble character and offered him better terms than other merchants, sending her servant Maysara with him; she found in her goods a trustworthiness and blessing she had never seen, which led to their marriage.
