Overview
Mardawij ibn Ziyad al-Daylami, leader of the Daylam. His companions entered Isfahan in 322 AH. Among his commanders was Ali ibn Buya, who separated from him and seized Fars. 2
His end
His affair grew great, and people talked that he wanted Baghdad. Al-Suyuti relays from him a saying attributed to him that he would return the kingdom of the Persians and destroy the kingdom of the Arabs. He died in Isfahan in the days of al-Radi. 2
In al-Mas'udi
Al-Mas'udi says that Isfar ibn Shiruya sent him to Sallar, lord of al-Tarm, to take the oath of allegiance from him, and they made a pact against Isfar. Then Mardawij seized the army and the treasuries. 3
Al-Mas'udi also says that when the people of Hamadhan killed his sister's son, he went out against them and used the sword among them for three days. The figures differ in his account according to whoever says less or more. Then he descended on Isfahan. 3
