Summary

Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Ghani ibn Abi Bakr ibn Shuja' al-Baghdadi al-Hanbali, surnamed Mu'in al-Din, known as Ibn Naqta; hafiz-muhaddith among the celebrated seekers of hadith, abundant in its audition and writing, a traveller in its pursuit — he journeyed through Khurasan, the Jibal, the Jazira, Syria and Egypt, met the shaykhs, wrote much and penned useful marginalia. 1

His works

He continued the Ikmal, wrote a neat book on genealogies as a dhayl on the books of Ibn Tahir al-Maqdisi and Abu Musa al-Isbahani, and the Taqyid on knowing the narrators, sunan and masanid; Ibn Khallikan said: I used to hear of him in his time and never met him — I was then nearly settled at Aleppo for study when news of his death reached us. 1
