Overview
Asim ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab al-Qurashi al-Adawi; his mother was Jamila bint Thabit ibn Abi al-Aflah al-Ansari, and he is the maternal grandfather of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz. 1
In the Prophet's lifetime
Ibn al-Barqi said he was born in the Prophet ﷺ's lifetime and transmitted nothing from him; Abu Ahmad al-Askari said he was born in the sixth year; Abu Umar said the Prophet died when he was two. Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar records that Umar married him off during his lifetime, provided for him for a month, then said: enough for you. 1
His character and death
Al-Zubayr said he was among the finest of people in character, and Abdallah ibn Umar used to say: my brother Asim and I do not gossip about people. He was tall and powerfully built — his arm nearly a span longer — and composed poetry. Ibn Sa'd, Ibn al-Sakan and others said he died in 45 AH aged one hundred and fifteen; it was also said in year twenty. 1
