Overview

Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali (may God be pleased with him) ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him), known as al-Sajjad and Zayn al-Abidin, the son of al-Husayn who survived Karbala. 2

The day of al-Harra

Al-Mas'udi relates that on the day of al-Harra the army saw him clinging to the grave and praying, and he had sworn allegiance on the condition that they were slaves to Yazid. He was brought to Musrif in a rage. When Musrif saw him, he trembled and stood up for him, seated him beside himself and said: "Ask me your needs." He did not ask for anyone who had been brought forward to the sword without Musrif granting him intercession. 2

Musrif is quoted as saying: "That was not my opinion; my heart was filled with terror of it." 2

From Sheikh Omar Abdelkafy's Tafsir lectures (episode 3)

The Sheikh relates that during the pilgrimage season Ibn Abd al-Malik tried to reach the Black Stone but could not because of the crowd, then a man with a radiant face came, the people made room for him and waited in two lines until he kissed the Stone, and Ibn Abd al-Malik asked who this was 3. He says that the man was Ali Zayn al-Abidin ibn al-Husayn of the Family of the Prophet ﷺ, whom a poet praised in a remarkable poem, and the Sheikh comments on the people's reverence for him 4.
