Summary
Jamal al-Islam 'Ali b. Muslim al-Sulami, mufti of Syria; companion of the singular imam Shaykh Abu'l-Qasim Ibn al-Summayt. When his teaching at the Aminiyya — its first teacher — faltered, Shaykh Abu Hamid al-Ghazali took him up and brought him into the Umayyad Mosque as muqri' of the Qur'an; al-Ghazali praised him, recommended him and urged people to preserve his learning. Bab Manzur was conferred on him toward the town of Jenin near Nablus, a village called Basraja, where he settled; Ibn al-Jawzi says he died in 533. 1
