Overview

Abu'l-Fath Sulaym b. Ayyub b. Sulaym al-Razi al-Shafi'i, mufassir, man of works and of a tafsir; pupil of Abu Hamid al-Isfarayini, he took down the Ta'liq from him and sat in his place, then travelled to Syria and dwelt at the frontier of Tyre as a murabit spreading knowledge — Shaykh Nasr al-Maqdisi trained under him. 1

Scruples and death

Scrupulous and abstemious, he took himself to account over mere fancies, having read fiqh only after passing forty; among his works his tafsir 'Imad diya' al-qulub. He drowned in the Red Sea off Jeddah's coast after the hajj in Safar 447. 1
