    Overview

Al-Fakhr Ibn al-Bukhari, musnad of the world; he transmitted hadith for over sixty years, singular in the high chain until he joined grandchildren to grandfathers in isnad height, and students travelled to him from every land; he read fiqh under Shaykh Muwaffaq al-Din and read al-Muqni' to him, who licensed him to teach it. 1

    His lofty isnad

Al-Dhahabi said, asking al-Mizzi about him: "one of the great shaykhs of the house of knowledge and hadith — we know no one who enjoyed such fortune in transmission in these times"; Ibn Taymiyya said, "my breast expands when I bring Ibn al-Bukhari between me and the Prophet in a hadith" — and he entered between them in countless hadiths, among them the hadith musalsal of the Hanbalis called Silsilat al-dhahab, the Golden Chain. 1
