Overview
Abu Zayd Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abd Allah al-Marwazi, a jurist of Merv, and a companion of Abu Ishaq al-Marwazi. He died in Merv in Rajab 371 AH. Al-Shirazi describes him as a keeper of the school with good judgement, and notes his fame for asceticism. 2
A contemporary's testimony
Al-Shirazi quotes Abu Bakr al-Bazzar, who says that he travelled with the jurist Abu Zayd from Nishapur to Mecca, and that he knows of no sin the angels recorded against him. 2
His students
Abu Bakr al-Qaffal al-Marwazi and the jurists of Merv took from him. 2
The editor notes a difference in how his nickname is vocalised: "al-Bazzaz" in the edition and "al-Bazzar" in Ibn Khallikan. The Gregorian date is derived and needs an additional source.
