Overview

Abu Farwa Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, one of the clients. Al-Baladhuri mentions him in "Futuh al-Buldan". 1

His nickname and origin

Al-Baladhuri relates that he was called Abu Farwa after the fur (farwa) he wore when he was taken captive. He relates from Ibn al-Kalbi that he was an Arab of the AraShah of Bali, taken captive in the days of Abu Bakr from Mount al-Jalil in Syria. It is said that he was of the captives of Ayn al-Tamr. 1

His story with Uthman

He was bought by Na'im al-Asadi, then Uthman bought him and made him dig graves. Al-Baladhuri says that he was among the people when they rose against Uthman. In the report Uthman said to him: "Return the injustices." He answered that Uthman was more entitled to that, because he bought him with money from alms to dig graves, and so he left it. 1

His descendants

His son Abd Allah ibn Abi Farwa was among the chiefs of the clients. Among his descendants was al-Rabi' ibn Yunus, the companion of al-Mansur. 1
