Abdallah ibn Abdallah ibn al-Ahtham (Abu Haqan / Abu Tutayna)

عبد الله بن عبد الله بن الأهثم أبو حاقان

Abdallah ibn al-Ahtham, Abu Haqan — Qutayba's Marw deputy whose denunciation al-Hajjaj returned; forewarned he fled to Syria peddling wine, flax, then oil as one-eyed 'Abu Tutayna' — until al-Walid's death, when his unmasking sermon for Sulayman made him 'the most eloquent of men'.

Overview

Abd Allah ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Ahtham, Abu Hajan, was Qutayba's deputy over Merv when he went out on raids. 1

Informing and hiding

The report says that he wrote to al-Hajjaj to speak ill of Qutayba; al-Hajjaj folded his letter back to him, so he sensed evil and fled to Syria. There he sold wine and linen goods, then disguised himself as "Abu Tina", a dealer in oil, and put a rag and cotton over one eye. 1

After the death of al-Walid

When al-Walid died he stood up and preached to Sulayman, offering congratulations and attacking al-Hajjaj and Qutayba, and people said that Abu Tina the oil-dealer was the most eloquent of the people. 1 This report is from a single source and needs a second source.
