«أن غداً يوم عاشوراء، فصم وأمر أهلك أن يصوموا»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
It reached Malik that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) sent to al-Harith ibn Hisham (may God be pleased with him): tomorrow is the day of Ashura, so fast and order your family to fast. The editor notes that Abu Musab and Suwayd transmitted it from Malik, and that Abd al-Razzaq (7838) and Ibn Abi Shayba transmitted by other routes that Umar sent to Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith on the night of Ashura, telling him to eat suhur and fast in the morning, and he fasted in the morning. 1
