Summary
Malik said: the kin never bear anyone who harmed himself, whether deliberately or accidentally, and this is the view of the jurists and scholars among us; I have never heard that anyone made the kin liable for the blood-money of a deliberate killing. Malik cited the verse in al-Baqara about following up with someone who was pardoned some of his brother's blood-money with kindness, and interpreted it: whoever is given some of the blood-money by his brother, let him pursue it with kindness and pay it back with good grace. 1
