Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Abdallah ibn Yazid, mawla of al-Aswad ibn Sufyan
Summary
Malik transmits from Abdallah ibn Yazid, client of al-Aswad ibn Sufyan, as the editor corrects, from Zayd Abu Ayyash, that he asked Saad ibn Abi Waqqas about white dates exchanged for shalt dates. Saad asked him: which is better? He said: the white ones. Saad forbade it, and said: I heard the Messenger asked about buying dates for fresh dates, and he said: does fresh dates shrink when they dry? They said yes, and he forbade that. The editor quotes Malik in the margin: every fresh item for a dry item of its kind is forbidden. 1
