Overview
The Day of Dhu Najb took place a year after the Day of Jabala, related by Ibn al-Athir. In it the Banu Amir, with the king of Kinda Hassan ibn Kabsha, met the Banu Hanzala of Tamim. 1
The cause
When the Banu Amir had inflicted losses on Tamim on the Day of Jabala, they hoped to exterminate them. They wrote to Hassan ibn Kabsha, a king of Kinda, and he came with them with his clients to raid the Banu Hanzala. 1
The fighting
The Banu Malik shifted behind the Banu Yarbu', so the Yarbu' came to hold the kingship. At the dawn they fought, and the Banu Malik took part in the battle with them. Jushaysh ibn Nimran al-Riyahi struck the king, Ibn Kabsha, on the head and killed him, and Amr ibn al-Ahwas ibn Ja'far, chief of Amir, was killed. The Amir and the clients of Ibn Kabsha were routed, and al-Ahwas perished in grief for his son. 1
Ibn al-Athir relates that Jarir mentioned the day in his poetry after Islam. 1
The date is approximate.
