Overview

Al-Salabi relates that the armies of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent reached the walls of Vienna, capital of the Holy Roman Empire, in 1529 CE, and then withdrew from it. 1

The siege and the withdrawal

Al-Salabi holds that the length of the lines of communication made the taking of the capital impossible for Suleiman. He adds that Charles made peace with François so that he could devote himself to fighting the Ottomans and to rescuing the Habsburg capital. 1

The conflict continued afterwards between Suleiman and the European powers that supported the king of Hungary over the control of that kingdom, until Suleiman's death. 1

The date of the event is derived. 1
