Overview
In 335 Nasir al-Dawla b. Hamdan marched on Baghdad championing the caliph al-Muti', whom Mu'izz al-Dawla had besieged and made his ward. Mu'izz al-Dawla crossed to the eastern side and struck him on the first of Muharram; Nasir al-Dawla broke, and the Daylamites looted Bab al-Taq and Suq Yahya and killed commoners. Women and children fled Baghdad barefoot along the 'Ukbara road — for word had spread that the Daylam, if they took the east, would put the mob to the sword in revenge for their curses on Mu'izz al-Dawla; he showed forbearance and forbade the killing, yet many perished of heat and thirst on the road 1.
