Summary
Muhammad Mutawalli al-Sha'rawi holds that the Quran's inimitability does not end with its revelation, but gives each generation a sign in what that generation excels at. This is his view and is attributed to him; other views are not yet presented. 1
A challenge for every age
Sha'rawi says the Quran came challenging the Arabs in language and eloquence, and because it is a religion for all people it had to challenge others in what they excelled at. He cites the opening verses of Al-Rum 1 and Al-Rum 4, which reported the Romans' victory after their defeat by the Persians, and counts this as a sign for non-Arabs at the time of revelation. 1 2
