Overview
Muhammad Farid Wajdi's reading of the Qur'anic principle that mankind was made peoples and tribes to know one another, honor with God lying in piety not lineage: this struck tribalism at its heart, and Islam laid equality and good treatment of dissenters as the basis of a universal fellowship. The book describes pre-prophetic Arabia as mutual strife, and Islam as opening a new era of amity 1 4 5. This is the author's own reading — attributed to him, not presented as the museum's verdict; among his claims are comparisons with earlier nations and the speed of Islam's spread across three continents 2.
