Summary
The Emir Sultan külliye in Bursa, east of Yeşil Cami, is named for a sainted cleric whose real name was Mehmet Şemsettin; born in Bukhara, he settled in Bursa and married princess Hundi Hatun, daughter of Beyazit I, who founded the complex in her husband's name 1.
The mosque
The külliye included a mosque, a medrese and a hamam — the bath is now a modern building — while the present mosque is a complete rebuilding under Selim III (r. 1789–1807) after fire destroyed the original in the late eighteenth century; it was rebuilt again after the 1855 earthquake 1.
For young visitors
An Ottoman princess founded a whole complex in Bursa in the name of her husband, the cleric Emir Sultan; the mosque standing today is an eighteenth-century replacement after the original burned.
