Summary

One is the third studio album of the Swedish singer Maher Zain, released by Awakening Records on 6 June 2016, four years after Forgive Me, and produced by Maher Zain with Bara Kherigi. 1 2 3 The Arabic article says its release fell on the first day of Ramadan and that it came in three editions: English on 6 June, Arabic on 9 June and Turkish on 16 June. 2

The title and what was said at release

By the Arabic article, the album's theme is "one": one Lord, one humanity and one world, a reminder that people of every origin and culture are one at root. 2 It quotes Maher Zain on release day saying that four years of concerts around the world had inspired the album's words, melodies and styles, and Bara Kherigi, head of the label, saying that belief in one God, one world and one humanity drives their work and that this was their most ambitious project. 2

The songs

The English edition has fifteen songs: 'The Power' with the group Amakhono We Sintu, 'Medina', 'Peace Be Upon You', 'Good Day' with Issam Kamal, 'By My Side', 'Jannah', 'I'm Alive' with Atif Aslam, 'Allah Ya Moulana', a Moroccan traditional song, 'Rabbee Yebarik', a wedding song, 'True Love', 'Let It Go', 'The Way of Love' with Mustafa Ceceli, 'Close to You', 'One Day' and 'Ummati'. 1 2 Most were written by Maher Zain with Bara Kherigi and Paddy Dalton; Ahmed Al-Yafie and Saif Fadhel wrote the Arabic versions, among them 'Tadroon' in Gulf dialect. 1 2 The Arabic article notes that hardly a song on it is without mention of God or the Prophet ﷺ. 2

The videos

'The Power' was filmed in South Africa and released in May 2016 in Arabic and English; 'Peace Be Upon You' followed on 27 May, Maher Zain at the piano in black and white, and he re-recorded it in Indonesian; then 'The Way of Love' in three languages, 'I'm Alive' on 9 September 2016, filmed in India with Atif Aslam, and 'Close to You' on 11 December 2016. 1 2
