Jami' al-Ulum wal-Hikam

A commentary by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d. 795 AH) on fifty hadiths of comprehensive speech, titled "Jami al-Ulum wal-Hikam fi Sharh Khamsin Hadithan min Jawami al-Kalim" (The Collection of Sciences and Wisdom: A Commentary on Fifty Hadiths of Comprehensive Speech). It is a commentary on the Forty Hadith of al-Nawawi. ¹

Ibn al-Salah dictated twenty-six hadiths in his session on "Al-Ahadith al-Kulliyya". Al-Nawawi added to them until they reached forty-two in "Al-Arba'un". Ibn Rajab added eight hadiths, and so the total came to fifty. ¹

Ibn Rajab says that in his biographical entries and in his references to books, he is not bound by al-Nawawi's wording. This is in the author's introduction, pages 26–28. ¹
